Set in the Oklahoma Territory of 1906, this musical tells the love story of cowboy Curly McLain and farmer girl Laurey Williams.  Encounter emotional and sometimes comedic subplots as we meet the Territory’s settlers.  Considered revolutionary in 1943, this musical play was the first written by composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist/librettist Oscar Hammerstein II.  Enjoy the turn of the century when Oklahoma was on the brink of Statehood.

IDOL ME Gala Competition
Lyric Music Theater Fundraiser

Lyric Music Theater is proud to sponsor, Idol  ME, a singing competition with a $1,000 grand prize. The competition starts in September with auditions for the first 30 registrants. A panel of three judges will select 10 contestants to compete for the grand prize at the Gala Competition on November 3rd. You won't want to miss the Gala Competition! With three rounds of competition it promises to be an exciting evening. The audience votes will count for 50% to determine the top two competitors for the final round and then the audience voting alone will choose the grand prize winner!! Audience admissions fees are $25 for "voting" seats and $10 for "viewing only" seats. Come help Lyric Music Theater find a Maine idol!

Based on Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera, this show provides glimpses of our Phantom Erik’s early life with his mother.  He encounters and falls in love with beautiful Christine and her extraordinary voice, teaching her to cultivate her talent, all the while protecting “his” precious Opera House from the new owners.  We learn Erik’s story and become sympathetic to his struggles.  This musical is a collaboration of Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit.

Corporate mismanagement, local government, bureaucracy, and small town politics!  Remember those pay toilets when you had to insert a coin to open the door just to use them?  That was nothing!  Following a twenty-year drought, a private corporation begins to control water consumption and all toilet facilities become public restrooms for which people must pay.  Those who do not comply are sent to Urinetown.  Uprising!  Revolution!  Rebellion!

Taken from Giuseppe Verdi’s Italian-language opera with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice.  A love story set in an ancient civilization when the captain of the Egyptian army, returning from an expedition through the land of Nubia becomes fascinated by the magnificent maiden Aida and is willing to sacrifice his future for her devotion.  A triangle emerges, complete with intrigue and the clash of cultures.  Can love be reincarnated?

Join some of your Lyric favorites for a great review of Gershwin brothers’ history as well as an opportunity to reminisce with their time-honored music.

After a challenging winter keeping our patrons, casts, crews and volunteers warm as well as removing snow for their safety, we need to replenish our coffers. Please help us in this important cause.

You'll be charmed by this Pulitzer prize-winning, classic of both Broadway and Hollywood fame! Mild-mannered Elwood P. Dowd has a best friend, Harvey, who happens to be an invisible six-foot white rabbit. Is he real? Elwood's family doesn't think so and wants Elwood committed. Soon, Elwood's delusion begins to influence everyone around him and the line between reality and fantasy begins to blur.

Annual Meeting

June 17
 
Lyric Music Theater’s Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony will be held at the theater on Tuesday, June 17th at 7:00pm. The meeting is open to the public and members are eligible to vote on all business items presented. Members are encouraged to come and hear an update on the operations of the theater and plans for the future, as well as ask questions of the board of directors. New board members will also be elected, the Annual Scholarships will be presented and the Volunteer of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Awards will also be announced. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. We hope you will all join us for this celebratory wrap-up to the 2007-2008 season!
