Idol ME
Lyric Music Theater awards $1000
idol ME! Grand Prize to Marissa Sheltra
On Saturday November 3rd, Lyric Music Theater held our
idol ME! Competition at the
South Portland Auditorium. Even though hurricane Noel arrived at the same time as the competition, audience members were enthusiastic and supportive of our talented contestants. Our ten vocalists, in order of appearance were: Anthony Donnangelo, James Kramlich, Susan Brownfield, Jenna Gato, Marissa Sheltra, Edward “Ned” Donovan, Anna Foss, Conor Tubbs, David Combs, and Sheryl Dyer. Charles Grindle accompanied all contestants on the keyboard. Following each musical number, the panel of judges, comprised of Fritzie Cohen, Stephen Filieo, and Sally Hadley, made brief comments to the performers. Both the audience and judges contributed 50% of the total for the voting tally.
Five semi-finalists were selected to go on to Elimination Round 2, and again, our panel of experienced judges gave feedback to our performers. Votes were tallied in the same manner and two finalists were selected.
Marissa Sheltra was selected the
idol ME! winner by audience votes alone and was presented with the
Saco and Biddeford Savings Institution $1000 Grand Prize by Linda Noone, VP and Manager, and Betty McGovern, Assistant Manager, both of the SBSI South Portland branch, as well as Bruce Merrill, President of the Lyric Music Theater Board of Directors. Marissa also received a gift certificate from Groff Video to record a CD, compliments of Reggie Groff and valued at approximately $500. Our runner up,
Ned Donovan was awarded a cash prize of $250. The other eight contestants received complimentary tickets to upcoming Lyric productions. The Lyric Board wishes to extend special thanks to our Master of Ceremonies, Matthew Ryder, Stage Manager Michael Donovan, Theater Photographer, Linwood “Woody” Leland and all of our volunteers who made this event possible.
Congratulations to all of our fabulous
idol ME! contestants!
